Same Problems, Different Times

Updated: Nov 30, 2017

North Korea is going through problems very similar to those of the Mexicans back in the early 1800's. The Gutierrez-Magee Expedition took place in 1812. During this time, the Spanish were conquering Mexico and using the Mexican people as slaves and bought encomiendas that gave them rights to the people living on the land they bought. Even though this system was pretty much dead by now, the same premiss existed. The Mexican people were being heavily oppressed by the royalist Spanish. This expedition was a filibuster, an unauthorized military expedition into a foreign country or territory to foment or support a revolution. Bernardo Gutierrez and Augustus Magee lead a group of about 300 men and went into modern day Texas to capture important cities to show that the Mexican people can gain independence if they band together. After capturing a couple of cities and persuading a revolution, the Mexican people successfully gained independence from Spain.

Just as the Mexicans were being oppressed, North Koreans are forcefully lead by bad leadership which may cause the same outcome. The lack of smart choices made in their leadership roles(see last blog post) may show signs that their independence is soon to come. History has a tendency to repeat itself.
